I have always struggled with the phrasing of the first principle. You can not make people awesome - only they can make themselves awesome. It cannot be done to them.
But for someone to become awesome, they must see their potential awesomeness reflected in the eyes of others. Others must _believe_ in their awesomeness.
So that is where we must start with Agile. You have to believe in others, in their potential awesomeness, their profound capacity for greatness.
