Gestalt colloquially refers to the outer form, outline, growth, or appearance of persons, sculptures, or living beings in general (and their representation), but also to their effect and presence, for example as a "figure of light".
As a technical term, it is a topos of German-language intellectual history that resolves the classical problem of the transition from the externally perceptible world to the inner world of imagination as a Gestalt.
