Few people have had more impact on the theory of education that Jean Piaget, whose ideas first became widely known in the 1960s.

His theory of cognitive development created a powerful learning model that challenged traditional concepts focused on rote learning. This work underpins the concepts of Project Based Learning and Deeper Learning.

Arguably, the most powerful concept he articulated was the relationship of learning to an individual's Schema.

His theory of learning, called Constructivism, deeply influenced the thinking of Seymour Papert and Alan Kay.
