The most important task of central banks is therefore not technical at all; it is not "balance mechanics" (Wolfgang Stützei), but very much Simulation. In this meaning, central banks indeed perform a quasi-religious function: as God ciphers the simultaneity of being and nothingness, they disguise the paradox that not knowing the functional conditions of the monetary economy is part of the functional conditions of the monetary economy.
