I (Ward) wanted Long Chain of Pages to be super simple and still a valuable experience in navigating within the lineup.
I thought climbing a ladder would be a good organizational metaphor but this morphed into ten floors of department store because I wanted something new and valuable on every rung.
I wanted the Synopsis to sound like the elevator operator announcing the merchandize. I also wanted it to be a bit tedious with the promise that the player would later remove the tedium by constructing the missing directory.
I leaned on what I was doing in my own life for representative subject matter. I was browsing maps thinking I would ride toward the eclipse. Days later I updated this with a trip report.
To show editing features without editing enabled I simply grabbed generated html from the editor and pasted it into our own html plugin. I was pleased to see that most features of the journal still worked when thus transplanted. See Copy outerHTML in Chrome Developer Tools.
I also had this surprisingly good timelapse I'd shot from the lunchroom at work. It alone makes a good metaphor for wiki.

I played through lower floors repeatedly as I conceived each new one. I tested the beer song before I wrote too far. It worked so it was in. The Morse code teacher offered a similar and apropos side trip. I was so infatuated with the concept that I left it in even though tests showed it broken. I'll leave debugging looming over my free time.
