Born 1936 in Herzogenbuchsee, grew up in Bern. He was a lawyer, songwriter and a versatile author. His dialect songs are now an integral part of Swiss cultural heritage. Extensive written legacy in various genres. Married to Joy Matter, father of three children. Deceased in 1972.

The 'Sudelheft', first published in 1974, collects Mani Matter's diaries from the period between 1958 and 1971. With the 'Rumpelbuch' (first edition 1976) further diaries as well as poems and prose texts were published. The edition presented here combines the two books. page
