One previously unappreciated attraction to neighborhood solutions has been that neighborhoods operate (make choices) at a level above/different from science, they automatically add emotion, aesthetics, passion, intuition, history etc etc.
Neighbors share more than stuff. They actually have affection and annoyances with one another. They find partners there. Their children develop there--beyond or before social media and advertising.
Many stories are about conflict over stuff, land, water, money, property... But love and family and friendship, kinship actually play a powerful role in addition to the stuffness.
Conversations are the most flexible and adaptive and learnable forms of communication. Without conversations democracy is impossible. Neighbors explore complex social system in their conversations.
