All these correlations – and they could made without end – lead to the following formulation: to the extent that the data of experience appear as dependent on the state of a given nervous system, they form the psychical world of a given individual, and to the extent that the data of experience are taken outside such dependency, we are confronted by the physical world.
Avenarius therefore designates these two domains of experience as the dependent Series and the independent series of experience.
