Timeless

People realized that they were tired of blogging, Twitter, and Facebook only being events. That they were letting a whole part of their being wither away. That they were exhausted. They wanted a space where they could feel timeless again, but still connected. They wanted to be part of this community.

People realized that they were sick of the event-driven nature of blogging, Twitter, and Facebook be the only game in town. That they were letting a whole portion of who they were atrophy. That they were exhausted. They wanted a space where they could feel Timeless again, but still connected. They wanted to be part of that community.

The foundation of human learning.

Christopher Alexander (www.mediamatic.nl ) is an architect and professor emeritus at Cal Berkeley. He is very interested in design, and computer folks who read his books are always impressed by the parallels with designing software. He originated the patterns concept in the later 1960s and early '70s. In particular, a lot of the jargon we use when we are talking about patterns, such as "forces" and the distinction between problem and solution, come from his work.

"There is one timeless way of building. It is thousands of years old, and the same today as it has always been. The great traditional buildings of the past, the villages and tents and temples in which man feels at home, have always been made by people who were very close to the center of this way. And as you will see, this way will lead anyone who looks for it to buildings which are themselves as ancient in their form as the trees and hills, and as our faces are."
