If one rewrites this Freudian version of transcription, which is related to psyche, to communication, then transcription can be understood as a form of description: Something that has already been described (a pre-writing) is inscribed in a different way and rewritten in this sense. This is part of the evolutionary normality of the "permanent rewriting" (Stäheli 1998: 340) of systems.
