For reasons we'd have to charge my insurance to go into, I recently found myself needing to revisit my assumptions on this question. As a result, I did what any normal and well-adjusted individual would do, I read up on the latest research on the neurobiological actions of the **emotion** of Love. Emotions are all _involuntary_ physiological responses to the hormonal distributions of our Endocrine System
, and Feelings, of which Love is one, are the **conscious subjective** interpretations of those emotions. These terms are poorly defined, and even more poorly understood, and I don't care to litigate that here, so I'm just going to roll with this.
In recent years, the confluence in research techniques provided by fMRI machines, AI modeling and big data analysis, and the voxelation of imaging data (a voxel is like a pixel, but in three dimensions) have allowed researchers to dive much deeper into how our emotions work.
These "recent years" are from about 2010 to today, and as I was reading I realized that my own conception of Love, forged as I imagine most of ours is by observing my parents, whose love for me probably reflected the lack of love they had for each other, and a series of situationships (back then I believe we called them "growing up") that involved the externally available hormone alcohol as much as anything my own brain was producing.
Needless to say, what I found was pretty fascinating. So if you'll take a side-journey with me within this rabbit hole, we're going to add another small mammal to this mix: On Prairie Voles.
