This article describes some key ideas and applications of cognitive radars, highlighting the limits and the path forward. Cognitive radars are systems based on the perception-action cycle of cognition that senses the environment, learns relevant information from it about the target and the background, and then adapts the radar sensor to optimally satisfy the needs of the mission according to a desired goal. The concept of cognitive radar was originally introduced only for active radar. In this article, we explain how this paradigm can also be applied to passive radar (PR).

In diesem Artikel werden einige wichtige Ideen und Anwendungen kognitiver Radare beschrieben, wobei die Grenzen und der Weg in die Zukunft aufgezeigt werden. Kognitive Radare sind Systeme, die auf dem Wahrnehmungs-Handlungs-Zyklus der Kognition basieren, der die Umgebung erfasst, daraus relevante Informationen über das Ziel und den Hintergrund lernt und dann den Radarsensor so anpasst, dass er die Anforderungen der Mission entsprechend einem gewünschten Ziel optimal erfüllt. Das Konzept des kognitiven Radars wurde ursprünglich nur für das aktive Radar eingeführt. In diesem Artikel erläutern wir, wie dieses Paradigma auch auf das passive Radar (PR) angewendet werden kann.
