Here we note and explore ideas that we are working on for the future with regard to how search works in the federation.
# Roster Search
A priority enhancement of search (now that we are able to search for page titles), is to be able to search a roster of sites. Currently wiki-find is only able to search the neighborhood. We would like to change this by adding Roster Search.
# Distributed Search
We do not want to rely on any central search engine, least of all Google custom search. This is not the Philosophy of the Federation. It is not sustainable, nor does it build community, or leverage the collective intelligence of the writing community properly.
To that end we seek to implement as soon as possible Distributed search or Federated Graph Search in wiki. Wiki already has a fast highly flexible way of finding content in the federation with Wiki Find, we wish to something equally innovative with search.
# Slow crawl
Another thought, what we really want, the thing that leverages all our individual and collective intelligence across distributed networks of thinkers and machines is a Slow Crawl.
# Faster Title search We can look to find any page in the federation using Title Search: - http://search.fed.wiki.org:3030/title-search.html
# Custom Search Engine We also want to compare the performance of using a custom search engine such as Google Custom Search.

# Speed
In the future we look to experiment with speeding up search. With the Search Plugin (below) we can see the effect of manipulating the results of searching the search index downloads:
