Genius Hour is a project in the classroom and sometimes in the workplace where students and employees are allowed to explore their own passions and wonders for a set amount of time, usually ranging from 1 hour per week to 20% of their total class time.
At Dayton, all of their Junior High School students have a period that is their Genius Hour. In these classes, they form small teams to work on projects, organized by two week Learning Cycles. The hope is that they are laying the foundation of passionate learning that will lead them through their high school experience.
This middle school Genius Hour experiment began in the Fall of 2018 with Genius Hour v1. It is now continuing in the spring term, relaunched as Genius Hour v2.
