Heterotopia

In neoliberal and postmodern society, the utopian is found not least in niches where other forms of social Interaction prevail. >> interaction

The term "heterotopia", the other place, coined by the French theorist Michel Foucault, refers to spaces that elude the social norm, do not follow it or do not follow it completely: The heterotopia is the "realized utopia" limited in time and space. It creates a "microcosm" that allows deviant behavior, whereas the continued existence of norms outside these spaces remains untouched.

Heterotopias differ from other places in both their spatial and temporal structure. They are limited to particular spaces and, unlike utopias, do not aim at an overall social order.
