Now, one can see that to the graph structure from figure 1 it corresponds a set of relations:

Each of these three-tuple relations contains an ordered pair of items I_i I_j linked by a predicate R_k which specifies the Type of Association between I_i and I_j. We will call this Three Tuple Relation an Atomic Relation because it constitutes the elementary building block of larger networks.
