Shame Takes Place on the Skin

The idea is that Shame takes place on the skin, not in the heart.

The question is whether this one-sided restriction of the psychological to a deeply inner subjective space is sufficient today. The division of labor: questions of shame are anthropological, questions of Guilt are psychological, does not lead much further either.

With regard to the fate of the 'cold persona' in Germany, it should be remembered that the last narcissism discussion to affect the republic took place in the seventies, when disappointed pedagogues of 1968 believed that a new narcissistically influenced "type of socialization" could be discerned in the insufficiently rebellious young people, which was characterized by a collapse of superego identification, an increased repression of Feelings of Guilt and a crisis of self-esteem.
