An __author-page__ is a wiki-page named after the author of the site. Creating an author-page is very important for how wiki works. Your reader needs to know who you are. Wiki is personal. It helps build trust.
This also saves a great deal of time, when we meet new people. Rather than having to say a little bit about yourself each time you join a new meeting, we can simply refer to the __author-page__ for context.
Furthermore, each site has its own context. You may write here as an artist, and on another site as a scientist. Over there you may wish to write about your interest in scrabble. On each site the __author-page__ explains why you are there, what brings you to write about the particular topic of interest to that site.
# Identity
Many things online require trust to function properly. At the same time we wish to give authors the ability to Speak in Hats, that is to speak from the position of a fictional character or persona This pseudo-anonymous capability is a fundamental super power of the internet.
Identity is a fundamental part of the exploration we engage in with wiki. We are in the process of progressively adding strong self-sovereign identity to wiki, but first we must get the soft-rules of sociability correct. This design process begins with the author page.
# Tools
We use the __author-page__ as a structured element for a number of tools. We provide custom search tools for authors, and expect to link these to the __author-page__. We also sometimes check for the existence of __author-page__s before giving access to advanced features.
# Onboarding
The onboarding experience needs to encourage and motivate some difficult. Initial tasks like writing an Author Page.
