Hidden in plain sight

There are levels of obscurity. Wiki is obscure - it likes to be obscure. This imparts a sense of freedom to you writing, perhaps mistaken, perhaps not. You feel less judged as you type. Wiki is not a blog post - you do not try to publish the results - rather you try to explore ideas in the early stage of formation.

A slightly greater level of obscurity might be achieved by using hackpad style url's, but if we want real obscurity run wiki locally on your laptop, or better still using dat / ssb or an equivalent decentralised protocol wired into wiki.

# Clash with search

However as we write we often wish to search, at east search material from our colleagues or neighbours. The effective solution to the tension between these two needs of discoverability and privacy int the collaborative writing process is at the heart of what makes wiki beautiful - or at least fascinating to write in.

# Identity

Self-sovereign identity is a corollary of this requirement - as it enables the citizen to control the level of privacy or anonymity they seek at any given time or interaction.
