Meaning Making

"As sentient human beings, our Calling is to be make sense of this Experience called Life." We 'are' Meaning makers. [⇒ Meaning (Sinn)] – a universal Medium? … "changes in medium" ⇒ Touchstone

For meaning-constituting systems, everything has meaning, because only on the basis of meaning can everything be communicated (or thought).

The world can only be observed through the medium of meaning, which is only realized in systems. Meaning and system are therefore mutual requirements: they are only possible together. In social and psychic systems, meaning ensures present determinations, on the basis of the past history of selections, while opening future alternative possibilities.

The Agile Movement opened new doors for learning, for making meaning. Thompson Morrison has been exploring "the core of this movement", this Agile Learning experience to see how it might transform the learning process. "How it might guide our aspiration to reimagine Education."

Key to this understanding, he said, is "an appreciation of the underlying Pattern Languages that each of us use that connects these experience, as Containers of Meaning, together."

Recently I met with Jenni to introduce the wiki as a writing platform that might be explored with the students in her Genius Hour classes at Daytion Junior High.

The law of calling means that if you name a distinction by means of applying a label, and if you repeatedly use the label to refer to the distinction, this use is compatible with the common-sense notion of names that do not change their meaning over time.

Living happens in continuous Structural Coupling

The Agile Movement started in 2001 with a manifesto that was written by seventeen software developers.

Well, the end of a seven year project. William Bricken recently met a correspondence friend for the first time. He immediately asked: “Why can’t you write a small book?”

Containers represent distinctions.

In James algebra for example everything is a Container. Empty containers are units. There are two basic forms: ( ) and [ ]. They cancel each other out. When we wish to connect to arithmetic, ( ) is One and [ ] is a type of Infinity. When we wish to think about cognitive distinctions, we might say that ( ) is what is and [ ] is what could be. When we wish to eschew interpretation, the name of ( ) is Round and the name of [ ] is Square. These delimiters and their names are quite arbitrary, dictated by the available keys on a typewriter, and having no relationship to the geometric shapes they may invoke. These delimiters represent generic containers.

The only thing that a container does, regardless of shape or representation, is to hold Things.

Hypertext is more than links between web pages. It fundamentally shifts how we think.

Ward's new Guiding Diagrams allows for quick visualization of the flow of ideas. The impact, for me, is powerful.

We've equipped wiki with a means to draw pictures of work in progress that can guide this work to completion.

We've designed an information space that can accomodate sprawl as well as any favela in the world. How will we ever find our way?
